Skilled Worker Visa - Australia

Australia is a sovereign country comprising the mainland of the the island of Tasmania, Australian continent, and numerous smaller islands. People often visit Australia for scenic landscapes such as its beaches and the outback areas along with the opportunities in employment.

The Skilled Occupations List (SOL) has been replaced with Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) has replaced the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL), effective April 19, 2017.

Occupation Lists:

Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)

If applicants are applying for Skilled Subclasses, then they must have an occupation on the MLTSSL:

  • Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)
  • Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
  • Skilled Regional Sponsored Visa (Subclass 489)

MLTSSL occupations are the exactly the same as on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). The new occupation list consists of 16 occupations, which cannot be used for the following categories.

  • Employer Nomination Scheme Subclass 186 visas (Direct Entry)
  • Training Subclass 407 visas
  • Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 visas
  • Skilled Regional Provisional Subclass 489 visas (State Nominated)
  • Temporary Worker (Skilled) Subclass 457 visas

Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)

The occupation on the STSOL is a must for applicants applying for following:

  • Skilled Regional Provisional Subclass 489 visas (State Nominated)
  • Employer Nomination Scheme Subclass 186 visas (Direct Entry)
  • Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 visas
  • Training Subclass 407 visas
  • Temporary Worker (Skilled) Subclass 457 visas

By removing 200 occupations from the CSOL, the STSOL has been created. The STSOL has added 24 regional occupations for the following categories:

  • Temporary Worker (Skilled) Subclass 457 visas where the employment is in a regional area as specified for RSMS visas
  • Skilled Regional Provisional Subclass 489 visas (State Nominated)
  • Employer Nomination Scheme Subclass 186 visas

General Skilled Migrant Program

Australia’s economy is offering millions of jobs every week, being one of the strongest in the world, making it an extremely preferred destination for highly skilled young people. In order to achieve organizational goals, Australian employers required skilled workforce.

The eligibility of skilled migrants is assessed on a point-based system, who desire to immigrate to Australia. Points are awarded after considering the age, work experience, qualifications and language proficiency of the aspirant, in this system.

The applicants need to satisfy the following threshold requirements:

  • Have an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
  • Meet the threshold English language requirement of competent English;
  • Be able to score at least 60 on the points test
  • Submit an expression of interest (EOI);
  • Be under 50 years of age at the time of applying for a visa;
  • Have a suitable skills assessment for that occupation.
